How to Extend Your Laptop Battery Life
Laptop batteries are improving in performance every year, however there are still a few things you can do to ensure you get the best from your battery and help extend its life.
Adjust your Screen Brightness – One of the biggest drains on battery power is the screen display. The screen backlight uses a lot of power so by adjusting this and turning it down you can extend your battery time.
Check your Power Settings – Adjusting your power settings can also increase your battery life. There are a number of standard options available in Windows to select or you can choose to set your own custom plan. MacOS use a feature called ‘Energy Saver’ to control settings.
Updates and Scheduled Tasks – Set your scheduled tasks and updates to only run when your laptop is plugged into a power source.
Unplug Unneeded Devices – USB Devices can use battery power even when idle so unplug any that are not needed liked USB flash drives and headphones when not in use.
Turn Off Bluetooth – Whilst Bluetooth is a powerful technology this will use power so get into the habit of switching it off when not in use.
Lastly – Close any applications and browser tabs when you have finished using them. Switch off WIFI if it is not in use and if you have a backlit keyboard consider switching this off.
With these few simple steps you should find that you can get more from your laptop battery and extend your battery life.
